How to Plan a Diving Trip worldwide

Planning a diving trip is exciting but also comes with questions: Where should you go? What do you need to bring? Do you need a certificate? In this guide, we explain step by step how to optimally plan your diving trip worldwide.

Step 1: Assess Your Certificate and Experience

Before booking, you should honestly assess your diving level. Most organized diving trips require an Open Water Diver certificate (PADI or SSI). If you don't have a certificate yet, there are two options: either complete the course before the trip locally, or book a package that includes a try-dive course on site.

Step 2: Choose the Right Destination

The Dominican Republic has something for everyone. Bávaro and Bayahibe are excellent for beginners and families, while Samaná and the cave diving spots are better suited for experienced divers. Think in advance about what kind of diving you want to experience.

Step 3: Travel Season and Climate

The best time to visit the Dominican Republic is from November to April. During these months, the weather is most stable, water temperature is a pleasant 27–29 degrees, and underwater visibility is optimal. From May to October there can be tropical rain and occasional storms, although diving is usually still possible.

Step 4: Flight and Accommodation

From Zurich there are direct and non-stop flights to the Dominican Republic. The flight time is approximately 10–11 hours. Our packages include the flight from Zurich and accommodation right at the dive site, so you can simply jump into the water in the morning.

Step 5: Equipment and Luggage

Most dive bases provide rental equipment. Nevertheless, we recommend bringing your own fins, mask, and snorkel – these personal items fit better and increase comfort. When packing, pay attention to the airline's luggage rules.

Step 6: Insurance

Special dive insurance is recommended for every diving trip. This covers decompression illness and transfers to the recompression chamber. Our premium packages already include such insurance. We also recommend trip cancellation insurance.

Conclusion

Planning a diving trip worldwide is easier than many think – especially when traveling with an experienced organizer who knows both worlds. We take care of all the organization so you can fully concentrate on what matters most: diving.
